Nicole Dial was a humanitarian working for the International Rescue Committee when she was killed in Afghanistan in August 2008. Nicole was in Afghanistan promoting educational programs and opening schools in Kabul, focusing primarily on the marginalized children of that war-torn land. Prior to her stint in the Middle East, she worked in Africa to help children there, especially landmine survivors and the "child soldiers" of that continent forced to take up arms at a young age. Nicole dedicated her life to supporting programs that help especially vunerable children despite the volatile nature of the regions she served. The Nicole Dial Memorial Fund was established upon her death to continue the important work Nicole so strongly believed in, namely the education and betterment of children throughout the world. This charm, designed in Nicole's memory, will help that process by donating 100% of retail proceeds of the charm to The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region.
